Lavrov: Russia-US contacts on removing irritants have not yet taken place

Contacts between Russia and the United States on eliminating bilateral irritants have not yet taken place, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. He made the statement during a meeting with participants of the XXIII Annual Meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Istra (Moscow Region) on September 29.
According to the minister, an agreement on holding such contacts soon has already been reached with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but the specific timing and venue of the meeting still need to be agreed upon by experts.
"Contacts have not yet taken place. We agreed with (US Secretary of State — ed.) Marco Rubio that this will happen soon, but experts still need to agree on specific timing and a specific venue."
Lavrov had earlier emphasized the need to improve Russia-US relations: he spoke about this on September 23.
