9 October 2026 marks six years since the liberation of Hadrut in Khojavend District from occupation. Azerbaijani media report on the anniversary.

Hadrut was liberated during the counter-offensive operations of the Azerbaijani Army that began on 27 September. The settlement was freed from Armenian occupiers on 9 October.

The liberation of Hadrut and eight other settlements was announced on 9 October 2020 by the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, in an address to the nation. According to him, the villages of Gyshlag, Garajally, Efendilyar and Suleymanly of Jabrayil District, Yukhary Guzlyak and Gorazilly of Fuzuli District, Chayly of Tartar District and Sor of Khojavend District were liberated, as well as the settlement of Hadrut.

The liberation of Hadrut is considered one of the key turning points of the 44-day war.

As a result of the Hadrut operation, significant manpower and equipment of the Armenian army were destroyed. The liberation of the settlement became a heavy defeat for the Armenian army and at the same time a major psychological blow for the Armenian side.

After this, the Azerbaijani Army opened the way to Shusha.
