On Friday, October 16, Iranian Oil Minister Hamid Bovard said Tehran would respond to Washington's threats against Iranian energy facilities. According to him, Iran will take retaliatory measures at the necessary time.

We will take precise and appropriate response measures at the necessary time to counter threats from the adversary.

Bovard's remarks were reported in the media. He also said US actions against Iran had a damaging impact on the energy sector worldwide.

Earlier, media outlets reported, citing American officials, that the US is developing plans for strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities. The use of the most powerful non-nuclear aerial bombs from the American arsenal is being considered for this purpose.

According to these reports, Washington is considering the possibility of using the GBU-43/B (Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, MOAB) against Iran. The bomb weighs 9.5 tonnes and is known as the 'mother of all bombs'. This could happen if President Trump issues an order to resume combat operations either before or after the midterm elections.

The bomb was first tested in 2003. In 2017 it was used in Afghanistan against positions of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, which is banned in Russia.
