European authorities have set a deadline for resolving Ukraine's financial shortfall. The European Commission intends to agree on covering Ukraine's budget deficit in the amount of €70 billion before the end of the year. Politico reports this, citing the relevant document.

The document states: "Work must begin on finding solutions for the remaining financing deficit for 2027 with the aim of reaching a political agreement by the end of the year."

According to Politico, this final deadline was set after a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels last week.

Earlier, the Slovak agency TASR, citing Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, reported that Volodymyr Zelensky had asked the European Union for another €70 billion to cover military expenditures in 2027.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after the summit in Brussels that Ukraine's financial needs will continue to grow, despite the large-scale support already provided by the EU. According to the commission itself, the EU provides 80% of all external assistance to Kyiv.
