Afghanistan: 28 militants killed after crossing from Pakistan; Islamabad denies links

Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said on Sunday, September 27, that Afghan forces had killed 28 militants and wounded 32 in eastern Nuristan province. According to the ministry, the group, which it said included Islamic State militants, had arrived from Pakistan.
The ministry also said Pakistani militiamen had supported the militants and that most of them were former members of the security forces of the previous Afghan government.
Pakistan rejects the allegations
Pakistan's Ministry of Information rejected the claims, calling them "reckless, baseless and having nothing to do with the truth" in a social media post.
The ministry said its security forces and intelligence agencies had not participated in clashes in Nuristan. It also denied that they had recruited or trained former Afghan security personnel or assisted the Islamic State or other armed groups in Afghanistan.
The statements by both sides concern an incident in Nuristan and mutual accusations of involvement in the activities of armed groups along the Afghan-Pakistani border.
