Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva visit retrospective exhibition “My Abshéron: Üstə göl”

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva visited the retrospective exhibition "My Abshéron: Üstə göl" at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art on 27 October. The exhibition is timed to the 80th anniversary of folk artist and chairman of the Artists' Union of Azerbaijan Farhad Khalilov.

The exhibition is organised by the Ministry of Culture, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art and the Artists' Union of Azerbaijan. It presents more than 90 works from the artist's personal collection, created since the 1960s. The exhibition covers a range of formats, from monumental oil paintings to small graphic works.

The Abshéron theme in the artist's work

Farhad Khalilov is known for his diverse body of work, his distinctive manner of painting and his recognisable style. In easel painting, he has worked in various genres, combining approaches from realism to avant-garde and abstract art.

The landscape and the theme of Abshéron occupy a special place in his work. The paintings, based on personal observations and impressions, depict the peninsula's nature, seaside landscapes, sunlight, changeable weather and the distinctive atmosphere of the region. According to reports, the artist conveys these features through colour, light and tone.

According to the organisers, the exhibition shows how the Abshéron theme developed in the artist's work over time and what significance it acquired in his individual artistic language. Alongside painting, graphics play an important role in Khalilov's work, demonstrating the breadth of his search in form and composition.
