In the Taksim area of Istanbul, a service minibus driver collided with a car after a crash and, according to investigators, was forced by force to an apartment in Şişli, where he was beaten and made to transfer 80,000 lira. Two suspects have been arrested on robbery charges.

The collision took place on 24 October, a Saturday, at about 05:00. According to the publication, which cites the case file, the minibus driven by 27-year-old Mehmet Eren A. collided head-on with a car travelling in the opposite direction. Passengers of the other vehicle wanted to call the police.

According to the suspects, Mehmet Eren A. said he was in a state of alcohol intoxication, might lose his job, and asked not to call the police.

Driver forced into an apartment

Mehmet Eren A. was forcibly put into a car and taken to a house in the Mečidiyeköy district of Şişli. There, according to the investigation, he was beaten, his phone was taken, and he was made to have 40,000 lira in available credit card funds transferred as an advance via internet banking. He was then required to transfer 40,000 lira to his elder brother. After receiving 80,000 lira, the suspects dropped the driver off near a trade centre.

Mehmet Eren A. went to the Kuştepe police station and filed a complaint. Officers of the Şişli public order department established the number plate of the car and the identities of two men: 27-year-old Burak P. and 22-year-old Hüseyin S. According to the victim, he recognised Burak P. from a photograph. Police later detained both men, when Hüseyin S., according to the investigation, was driving the car during the incident.

Court orders arrest of suspects

After a medical examination and processing at the police station, both suspects were referred to court. The court ordered their arrest on charges of robbery (gasp). According to the publication, Burak P. had previously been registered with police 13 times and Hüseyin S. 2 times.
