Kazakhstan receives 3,000 annual transit permits from Turkish ports

Kazakhstani truck operators have been given the opportunity to carry out transit shipments of cargo from Turkish seaports: Kazakhstan and Turkey agreed to exchange 3,000 permits starting in 2026. The agreement was reached at a meeting of the Joint Commission on Road Transport in Antalya.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstani carriers will be able to load cargo at Turkish seaports and then transport it to Kazakhstan. The sides also agreed to have no quantitative restrictions on electronic permits.

The ministry noted that the agreements should ensure more flexible organisation of transportation and allow carriers' needs to be addressed promptly.

The agreements reached will contribute to the further development of bilateral and transit transportation, which is important for expanding trade and economic cooperation and strengthening transport and logistics links between Kazakhstan and Turkey.

Participants in the meeting also discussed the further development of international road transportation and transit between the two countries. Following the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached and confirmed their interest in further cooperation.

Earlier, on 13–14 August 2026, the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Turkey held talks in Istanbul. Following the meeting, a new memorandum of understanding in the field of civil aviation was signed. It provides for further strengthening of cooperation and expanding air links between the countries.

Under the agreements reached, the number of permitted weekly flights on the main routes — from Istanbul to Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, as well as from Ankara to Astana and Almaty — for airlines of both countries was increased from 76 to 138.
