Azerbaijan Pardons French Citizen Martin Rayan Convicted of Espionage

French citizen Martin Rayan has been pardoned in Azerbaijan. The relevant decision is provided for by a decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pardoning a number of convicted persons.

Rayan was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. The sentence was handed down on March 16, 2026.

According to the case materials, Rayan is identified as a French citizen accused of espionage in favor of France. The pardon decree applies to a number of convicted persons.
