Lithuania is preparing an official note to Belarus regarding an incident involving a violation of the country's airspace by an unmanned aerial vehicle, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated.
The unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down over Lithuanian territory on the night of September 15. According to the head of the foreign ministry, when such violations are recorded, Vilnius drafts a diplomatic note and sends it to the state from whose territory the object arrived. In this case, it concerns Belarus.
Kęstutis Budrys also clarified that Lithuania will conduct the necessary consultations with its allies. Commenting on the potential invocation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which provides for consultations among NATO members in the event of a security threat, the foreign minister emphasized that the investigation must be completed first. At present, extraordinary measures are not required.
