In recent days, complaints from cotton farmers about not receiving payment for delivered produce and delayed payments have been in the spotlight.

The Ministry of Agriculture states that relations between cotton producers and supplier and processing companies are regulated on a contractual basis. After an advance, fertilizer, seeds, pesticides and other services are provided to the farmer, their value is deducted from the total amount of the produce, and the remaining funds must be paid to the farmer by the company.

The ministry noted that the companies named in the complaints are private legal entities and do not operate under the Ministry of Agriculture. For this reason, the ministry cannot directly intervene in those contracts.

The ministry also stressed that cotton subsidies paid to farmers by the state were provided on time. At present, the main problem relates to companies not paying or delaying payment for the value of cotton they have received.

In case of violation of contractual obligations, farmers have the right to apply to court. The ministry, for its part, is holding talks with companies to resolve the problem and recommends that obligations to farmers be fulfilled on time and in full.
