Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to developing economic ties with Turkmenistan, including strengthening trade cooperation and increasing turnover in non-oil goods. This was stated by Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship.

According to him, during his speech at the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Azerbaijan and Central Asia, the President of Azerbaijan drew attention to the development of the country's economic ties with the states of Central Asia, including Turkmenistan.

As the deputy noted, in 2025 trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan amounted to $208 million. Over the same period, $114.5 million worth of products were imported into Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan, while exports to Turkmenistan amounted to $63.8 million.

Vugar Bayramov noted that over the past year Azerbaijan conducted trade operations with Turkmenistan in 518 types of products.

Structure of Imports and Exports

According to the deputy, energy goods predominate in the structure of imports from Turkmenistan. In 2025, natural gas worth $36.4 million, jet fuel worth $12.5 million, and heavy distillates or gas oils for other purposes worth $7.7 million were imported from Turkmenistan.

In addition, liquid fuels for specific processing processes and chemical transformations worth $7.4 million, mineral or chemical nitrogen fertilizers worth $2.3 million, and lubricating oils for specific processing processes and chemical transformations worth $1.4 million were supplied to Azerbaijan. Other goods were also imported from Turkmenistan.

Vugar Bayramov reported that among the products exported from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan, agricultural processed products predominate. Thus, over the past year Azerbaijan exported to Turkmenistan white sugar and other chemically pure sucrose worth $22.4 million, products of iron or non-alloy steel worth $7.8 million, cotton fiber worth $3.9 million, structures of ferrous metals worth $1.8 million, and cream oil and other goods worth $931,000.

The deputy stressed that further increasing trade turnover with Turkmenistan, as well as with other fraternal Turkic states, is among the priority areas.

"The main goal is to strengthen trade cooperation in non-oil goods," added V. Bayramov.
