Azerbaijani delegation studies modern cotton farming technologies in China

Azerbaijan's agriculture delegation familiarized itself with modern planting, irrigation and automated harvesting technologies used in cotton farming in China.
The visit was organized within the framework of the “State Program for the Development of the Production and Processing of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030” and as part of the activities of the “Wheat-Cotton Implementation Group” established at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The delegation included Perviz Yusifov, head of the Department for Organization and Monitoring of Crop Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, and chief advisers Izzat Talibov and Zaur Abbasov.
China's modern cotton farming model studied
As part of the visit, a meeting was held with the management of “Xinjiang Seed Industry Co., Ltd.”, operating in Korla city of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
The meeting discussed the application of modern technologies in cotton farming, the development of new varieties, efficient irrigation systems and the mechanization of harvesting.
The Azerbaijani delegation visited the company's cotton fields and areas where new varieties were being demonstrated. Information was provided on modern planting and drip irrigation technologies used there, plant development indicators and agricultural practices used to increase yields.
Particular attention was paid to the use of pest- and disease-resistant varieties in China's cotton production, more efficient management of water resources and harvesting with modern cotton-picking combines.
It was reported that mechanized harvesting makes it possible to increase labor productivity, optimize production costs and accelerate the supply process.
Seed production and digital agriculture also in focus
The next destination of the visit was the “Longping High-Tech Park” in Changsha, Hunan Province.
The delegation familiarized itself with activities related to seed production, the development of new varieties, molecular breeding and genetic research, and the production of hybrid rice, corn and vegetable seeds.
In addition, information was obtained on digital agriculture and smart farming technologies, agrochemical products and innovative approaches applied in plant nutrition.
During meetings held at the park, views were exchanged with agricultural specialists, and demonstration fields for rice and new varieties were visited.
As part of the visit, attention was paid to studying China's experience, particularly in increasing productivity, using water and land resources efficiently, developing modern seed production, reducing production costs and digitizing agriculture.
It was noted that China's experience could be useful for applying modern technologies in the development of agriculture in Azerbaijan, particularly in cotton farming and seed production.
