Presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan visit historical landmarks of Bukhara

On August 24, 2026, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, and their family members visited the historical Ark fortress in Bukhara.
According to historical records, the Ark fortress was built in the 4th century BC. Its modern appearance was formed primarily in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the early 20th century, the structure was used as the winter residence of the rulers of Bukhara.
Currently, the fortress covers an area of 4 hectares. A large part of it was destroyed in 1920. Since 1947, the Bukhara State Museum-Reserve has been operating on this territory.
