Rodríguez calls on UK and Bank of England to return Venezuela’s gold
Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez has demanded that the United Kingdom and the Bank of England return the country's gold reserves held in Britain. Media reports differ on who the demand is addressed to.

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez has demanded that the United Kingdom and the Bank of England return Venezuela's gold stock and gold reserves held in Britain. The statement was made on 28 October, according to Venezolana de Televisión.
According to media reports, the demand has been addressed to different parties: some outlets write about the UK government, others about the Bank of England. In a quote broadcast by the channel, Rodríguez speaks specifically about the Bank of England.
«I will not drop the demand that the Bank of England return our gold. Enough excuses. This gold belongs to Venezuelans, not to the Bank of England. Enough of robbing our resources», Rodríguez said.
According to Rodríguez, there is no longer any legal or political basis for the Central Bank of Venezuela's assets to remain in the UK. She stated that the gold belongs to the Venezuelan people and should be handed over to the country.
Government instructions
Rodríguez instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General's Office to activate diplomatic and legal processes to return the gold bars.
She also said that an agreement had previously been reached with representatives of the opposition National Assembly convened in 2015. It contains a requirement to return the country's reserves.
