Ronaldo’s mother says her son is undervalued in Portugal
The mother of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro, said her son is not valued at home and admitted she was shocked by his exit from the team.

The mother of Portugal football captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro, said her son is not valued at home. Her remarks were reported by A Bola, citing an interview with TV7 Dias.
"He has done so much for Portugal, so his achievements will not go away. He was always a hero for Portugal. He is not valued as he should be," Aveiro said.
In late September, the forward came on as a substitute in the second round of Nations League group-stage matches against Norway (2:1). The 41-year-old Ronaldo then left the national team's camp after a press conference by head coach Jorge Jesus, at which he said the forward would not be in the squad for the next match.
Media reported a possible end to the forward's career with the national team. On Tuesday, Ronaldo spoke of a "breach of trust" on the coach's part, apologised to his teammates and fans and expressed readiness to return to the squad after a possible disqualification.
Aveiro admitted she was shocked by what happened.
"I am sad, that is normal. It was a shock. My son could have left through the front door, but he left through the back door. But nothing terrible, God will take care of everything. I cried a little, that is also useful — to let out emotions. We need to cope with all of this."
Ronaldo is a 2016 European champion and also holds the record for the most appearances (234) and goals (146) at international level.
