Azerbaijan and Turkey Advance Energy Cooperation to New Electrification Stage
Azerbaijan and Turkey are moving their strategic energy partnership into an electrification phase by developing new cross-border power interconnections.

Azerbaijan and Turkey plan to transition their traditionally successful oil and gas cooperation to a new stage, focusing on electrification, power generation, and energy interconnection projects.
Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov announced this during his speech following the 5th Azerbaijan-Turkey Energy Forum. According to him, cooperation between the two countries has acquired strategic substance.
The minister noted that the future development of digitalisation and artificial intelligence will generate high demand for electricity. In this context, the parties are discussing not only power generation but also the creation of new cross-border electrical links between states.
As key initiatives, Parviz Shahbazov highlighted power grid interconnection projects along the Nakhchivan–Turkey and Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey–Bulgaria routes, as well as across the Black Sea. According to him, these initiatives will enable the delivery of electricity, including from renewable sources, over long distances to target markets.
In parallel, Azerbaijan is working on similar projects in Central Asia jointly with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. All of these processes are being discussed within the Azerbaijan-Turkey Energy Forum based on a unified approach.
