Mingachevir State University has achieved another significant result in the international higher education arena. According to the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 results, the university ranked 6th in Azerbaijan.
The results were officially announced on September 24, 2026, in Baku as part of the “UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 Results & Awards Ceremony,” hosted by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. A delegation led by MSU Rector Anar Eminov represented the university at the international event.
During the awards ceremony, the final positions of Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions with the highest results in UI GreenMetric 2026 were announced. Mingachevir State University’s rise to 6th place in the country was one of the important results of the university’s systematic efforts in sustainable development, environmental responsibility, the green campus approach and efficient resource management.
One of the factors that makes this result particularly significant is that MSU is the only higher education institution located outside the capital to be among Azerbaijan’s top ten. With this, MSU has further strengthened its position among regional universities on sustainability and the “green university” agenda.
Another important factor adding significance to the event was Azerbaijan hosting the announcement of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings results and the awards ceremony for the first time. The international event, held from September 23–25, brought together university leaders, academics and sustainability experts from various countries. As part of the programme, panel discussions, workshops and academic sessions were held on sustainable university governance, climate responsibility, green campuses, water and energy resource management, digital sustainability and other current areas.
It should be noted that achieving 6th place in Azerbaijan in UI GreenMetric 2026 is another indication that Mingachevir State University has made the principles of sustainable development one of the important areas of university governance and campus life, while also consistently strengthening its position in international rankings.
