Almaty Airport to offer free VIP assistance to families of servicemen killed in Caspian exercise
From September 25 to October 3, 2026, Almaty Airport and Extime VIP Lounge will provide free assistance to families of deceased and surviving servicemen at all stages of departure and arrival.

At Almaty Airport, close relatives of servicemen killed and those who survived during exercises in the Caspian Sea will be able to use VIP assistance free of charge. The service is also available to the surviving servicemen themselves, the airport's press service said.
The offer from the airport and Extime VIP Lounge is valid from September 25 to October 3, 2026, for passengers departing from Almaty or arriving in the city. Staff will accompany them at all stages of departure or arrival.
Close relatives include parents, spouses, children, as well as siblings. When applying for the service, they will need documents confirming the relationship.

What happened during the exercises
On September 24, during the Khazar Qorghanu – 2026 exercises, bad weather swept 17 servicemen out into the open sea. As a result of the incident, 14 people died and three were rescued.
A government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev has been set up to establish the causes of the emergency. The criminal case opened under articles on negligence and violation of navigation rules is under special supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Five officers of the Kazakh Defense Ministry have been detained in the case of the servicemen's deaths. September 25 was declared a day of national mourning.
