Iran Says U.S. Proposals Were Conveyed Through Intermediaries

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran's proposals had been conveyed to the United States through intermediaries and that Tehran was awaiting a final response. He made the statement while speaking to the press in New York, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.
Araghchi said he had met with Qatari intermediaries the previous day to discuss Iran's conditions. He noted that the sides had exchanged ideas on how to implement those conditions and were now waiting for a response from the United States.
“Qatar will present these ideas to the United States, and we hope for a response by tomorrow. I will soon return to Tehran — decisions will be made there after the response is conveyed.”
Rejection of concessions on the nuclear issue
Araghchi rejected reports in the international press that Iran was allegedly ready to make concessions on the nuclear issue. He said Iran's position had not changed and that no negotiations had been held on the matter.
“Iran's position has not changed; there have been no negotiations on this issue (the nuclear issue). The current discussions concern the Strait of Hormuz.”
He said the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened only if the United States met Iran's conditions. Araghchi referred to the conditions set by Iran's leader Mojtaba Khamenei, linking the reopening of the strait to their implementation.
“Iran's conditions are entirely fair and logical. If the Americans claim that they support an agreement or are seeking a peaceful solution, then we are proposing this path to a solution.”
“Ready for both diplomacy and war”
Araghchi reiterated that Iran was ready for both diplomacy and war. He also said that, despite reports by some media outlets, Iran's position had not changed, the conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz were clear, and there was no question of flexibility.
“Iran is always ready for war and responds to their actions by military means. Iran has something to say, and in the field of diplomacy it is paving the way in accordance with its own logic.”
