Iran Gives Washington a Plan to Reopen the Strait of Hormuz Within 7 Days

Iran has handed the United States a plan that envisages reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if certain conditions are met, after which negotiations between the two countries would resume. The announcement was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to Araghchi, speaking to US media, the plan was conveyed to Washington through mediators.
"We presented the United States, through mediators, with a plan under which, if certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened by the end of the seventh day, and negotiations will resume," Araghchi said.
Tehran's Conditions
Under the proposal, it includes a cessation of all hostilities in the Middle East for seven days, including in Lebanon, the release of frozen Iranian assets worth at least 12 billion dollars, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
According to Araghchi, if the conditions are met, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the seventh, final day.
Iran's foreign minister confirmed that he is awaiting a response from the United States and noted that China, whose president is on a state visit to the United States, supports the proposal.
Context
US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending the war, opening the Strait of Hormuz and starting negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
However, the text was interpreted differently by both sides, which led to a resumption of hostilities — in particular, amid ship traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz.
As The New York Times and CNN reported, the new Iranian proposal was conveyed to the United States through a mediator. A White House representative told CNN that the sides are holding "positive and constructive discussions through mediators."
On Tuesday, representatives of the United States and Iran held talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly — the first such talks in several months.
