Czech President Calls for Initiative Against Russia

Czech President Petr Pavel said the North Atlantic Alliance should shoot down Russian military aircraft and drones. He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News. The Czech president's initiative has already been described as dangerous.
“Perhaps the time will come when we will have to shoot down some of these aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Czech politician said.
Pavel expressed hope that this would happen one day.
Reaction in Moscow
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that it was not even worth discussing a scenario in which NATO countries were supposedly ready to shoot down Russian aircraft. At the same time, he strongly stressed that all flights by Russian military aircraft are carried out in strict compliance with international rules.
Earlier, on September 15, former UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace made a similar proposal, suggesting that Russian drones be shot down over Ukraine.
The Czech president's statement continues the discussion within NATO about possible action against Russian airborne targets, while Moscow stresses compliance with international rules during military aviation flights.
