Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran no longer has trust in the negotiation process with the United States after attacks and sanctions. He said this in an interview with Al Jazeera.
"We no longer trust negotiations with Washington, given the repeated attacks and sanctions that followed each round of talks," Pezeshkian said.
According to him, Tehran is conveying messages to Washington through mediators — Qatar and Pakistan. At the same time, the Iranian side is primarily waiting for the Americans to clarify their position on the previously reached memorandum of understanding.
Pezeshkian also said he sees no need to meet with the US president until the Americans fulfill the agreement signed earlier.
What preceded the statement
In mid-June, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum intended to launch a process of concluding a peace agreement. However, three weeks later a new round of escalation began: Washington accused Tehran of firing on commercial vessels in Hormuz, after which the sides resumed exchanging strikes.
Currently, free passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is not taking place.
