Turkic States Foreign Ministers Meet in New York Under Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship

An informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held in New York on 25 September on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The session was held under Azerbaijan's chairmanship and was led by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, the meeting discussed preparations for the 13th OTS summit, which will be held on 29–30 October in Turkey, as well as global and regional processes related to the Turkic world. Turkey's Foreign Ministry also reported on this.
Bayramov's Remarks
In his remarks, Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the deepening solidarity among Turkic states bound by common roots and history, and noted that strengthening multilateral partnership is a strategic necessity amid changing global challenges.
The minister briefed participants on key results achieved during Azerbaijan's chairmanship following the decisions and initiatives adopted at the Gabala summit, and thanked member states for their active participation in events organized by Azerbaijan.
Events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, which made a significant contribution to the study of the language, history and cultural heritage of Turkic peoples, were noted as an important achievement. It was also noted that recent meetings in Baku — including those with secretaries of security councils, heads of Muslim religious administrations and leading national analytical centers — demonstrate the breadth of this agenda.
Priorities of the Organization
Jeyhun Bayramov pointed to the importance of further enhancing the OTS's international standing and noted that granting the organization observer status at the UN General Assembly is one of the shared goals.
The minister again emphasized the strategic necessity of strengthening physical transport links and transit infrastructure in the Turkic region, as well as enhancing regional stability and connectivity. According to him, the priority is to expand cooperation in practical and concrete areas such as trade, energy, ICT, science, technology and culture, and to create direct opportunities for business circles and peoples.
Azerbaijan's foreign minister wished Turkey success in connection with the hosting of COP31 in Antalya and the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara, once again reaffirming Azerbaijan's unwavering support.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a Statement of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States.
