NATO opens centralised weapons purchasing channel for Ukraine
Ukraine will be able to buy weapons, ammunition and military equipment through NATO's centralised procurement agency. According to the Financial Times, this will give Kyiv an additional procurement channel.

NATO will allow Ukraine to buy weapons, ammunition and military equipment through its centralised procurement agency. This may enable Kyiv to receive military supplies faster and at lower cost.
As the Financial Times writes, Ukraine is joining a partnership with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). According to the newspaper, this will link Ukraine's defence industry more closely with its Western allies and create an additional procurement channel. It will also reduce Kyiv's dependence on bilateral agreements.
NSPA Director of Operational Support Jakleen Borsboom, whose remarks the FT cites, described the possibilities of the new mechanism as follows:
«This gives Ukraine the opportunity to use a more structured system of access to a wide range of capabilities that we offer: expertise in procurement, support services and access to a complex industrial base.»
Context
The decision comes against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Ukraine and the United States, which, according to reports, have reached their lowest point. US President Donald Trump criticised Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Since 2025, Ukraine has been receiving American weapons through the PURL mechanism (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List). Under this mechanism, NATO member states buy weapons and military equipment for Kyiv from the US.
