Azerbaijan and Germany’s Uniper discuss cooperation in green energy
Representatives of Azerbaijan's State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources held negotiations with Uniper management in Dusseldorf.

On September 1, a seminar was held in Dusseldorf with the participation of a delegation from the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources (AREA) under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the management of the German energy company Uniper. The meeting took place as part of the implementation of the joint declaration on strategic partnership signed between Azerbaijan and Germany on July 21, 2026.
The negotiations were attended by Uniper's Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Kavita Ahluwalia, Vice President for Supply and Project Management in the Eastern Region Peter Arp, Senior Vice President for European Countries Gordon Smith, and General Manager for Business Development in the Caspian Region Turgut Bas. The parties discussed cooperation in the production of green and low-carbon hydrogen, energy efficiency improvements, and infrastructure development.
During the visit, Uniper representatives presented information on their hydrogen production and storage technologies. The participants also exchanged views on the prospects for global markets for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), e-methanol, e-methane, and biogas, and discussed the requirements of the EU legislative framework regulating the import of such products.
Deputy Director of AREA Rana Humbatova presented a report on Azerbaijan's renewable energy potential, the progress of the 'National Hydrogen Strategy' implementation, and the development of green energy corridors. Additionally, the meeting with the Eurogas association covered EU regulatory mechanisms in the energy sector and methane emission control rules affecting gas exporters.
Previously, AREA Director Javid Abdullayev noted that Azerbaijan is transforming from an energy exporter into an initiator of regional energy links. According to him, projects in the Caspian Sea and the creation of the 'Caspian-Black Sea-Europe' corridor will strengthen Europe's energy security, allow for the optimization of Azerbaijan's internal energy balance, and increase the country's export potential.
