Azerbaijan Railways Reduces Travel Time Between Khirdalan and Baku Starting September 15
Starting September 15, train travel time on the Khirdalan–Baku route will be reduced to 35 minutes thanks to a new timetable, while total daily commuter trips will increase to 96.

Starting September 15, train travel time on the Khirdalan–Baku route will decrease from 45 to 35 minutes, according to Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY).
The company explained that the current 45-minute journey duration was due to repairs on a railway bridge as part of infrastructure upgrades on the Khirdalan–Bilajari section. Following the completion of restoration work, travel speed will increase, and the journey time on the Baku–Khirdalan route will return to its previous 26 minutes. Passenger service on the Khirdalan–Sumgayit line will also be restored.
Under the new schedule, the number of services on the Baku–Khirdalan–Baku route will increase from 26 to 32. Taking morning passenger traffic into account, two trips toward Khirdalan have been added, and an extra evening departure from Baku toward Khirdalan has been introduced at 20:30. Overall, the daily number of commuter services has grown from 90 to 96.
In parallel, contactless payment options at turnstiles have been expanded: fare payment via NFC is now available with Mastercard in addition to Visa. Bank card fare deductions will now occur directly on the day of travel.
To accept bank cards at turnstiles, 58 additional validators were installed across stations and stops in Baku, Sabunchu, Pirshaghi, Khirdalan, Koroglu, Bakikhanov, Mammadli, and Darnagul. In the next stage of digital service development, the company plans to increase the number of terminals featuring facial recognition payment via SIMA Pay.
