Death Toll From Ferry Fire Off Philippines Rises to 76

The death toll from a fire aboard the passenger ferry MV June Aster off the coast of Palawan province in the Philippines has risen to 76, Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Noemi Cayabyab announced during a briefing.
According to Cayabyab, the remains of 41 additional victims were recovered from the vessel during search and rescue operations. This brings the total confirmed fatalities up from the previously recorded 35.
The fire broke out on the ferry on September 9. According to ship manifests, a total of 134 people were on board, including 117 passengers and 17 crew members.
Currently, 43 people have been rescued. The fate of 13 others remains unknown, and search efforts are ongoing.
Additionally, it was revealed that two passengers who had purchased tickets for the voyage ultimately did not board the vessel.
