EU Court rejects Hungary’s lawsuit over use of frozen Russian asset profits
Hungary attempted to challenge the legal mechanism that allows the European Union to use proceeds from frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine's needs.

The Court of Justice of the European Union on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Hungarian government against the EU's decision to use profits from frozen Russian assets to provide military aid to Ukraine. The corresponding ruling was published by the judicial authority on September 9, 2026.
In its appeal to the court, Budapest challenged the legality of the mechanism that allows profits generated from the management of blocked Russian funds to be directed toward supporting the Ukrainian side. The EU Court found the Hungarian side's arguments insufficient to overturn the decision.
The court's ruling confirms that the mechanism for utilizing these revenues remains valid, despite Hungary's objections.
