From October 9, the Gemini Pro artificial intelligence model will be available only through the AI Plus subscription. Google announced this in its help center.
"Users with the AI Plus subscription will receive information on the timing by email," the statement says.
Users without a subscription will retain access to the Gemini Flash-Lite model.
On October 1, Google introduced a new artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4 Argon. It is designed for complex multi-step tasks, including software development, legal and financial work, as well as cybersecurity. Google is already using Gemini 4 Argon for internal tasks. In particular, the model helped optimize memory usage in the company's data centers and free up hundreds of terabytes without purchasing additional equipment.
On June 28, the Financial Times reported that Google had imposed restrictions on Meta's (the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) use of its Gemini models due to limited computing resources. According to the publication, the restrictions affected Meta's internal projects. In connection with this, the company advised employees to use artificial intelligence tokens more efficiently.
The Financial Times also noted that Google introduced similar restrictions for a number of other clients, but they were most noticeable for Meta.
