English football club Leeds United attempted to acquire Monaco midfielder Alexander Golovin before the summer transfer window closed. However, the deal did not materialize due to the inability to ensure stable salary payments to the player.
The main obstacle was the restrictions on British banks, which, under current conditions, essentially do not conduct transactions with individuals and legal entities from Russia. According to reports, the player himself was willing to consider a move to the Yorkshire club.
In addition to Leeds United, Aston Villa also showed interest in the Russian midfielder during the summer off-season.
