The implementation of President Ilham Aliyev’s September 23 order on pardoning a number of convicted persons has been carried out at Penitentiary Service Facility No. 4 of the Ministry of Justice.
Under the order, Sonia Sabir, a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was released from the facility today after being pardoned for the remaining part of her sentence. She is the only female prisoner covered by the pardon order in question.
Sonia Sabir expressed her gratitude to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for the pardon decision.
She had been sentenced to 8 years in prison after being found guilty of robbery. Six months remained until the end of her sentence, and that period was pardoned.
It should be noted that the pardon order signed on September 23 applies to a total of 20 prisoners. Of them, 19 were released from the unserved portion of their prison sentences, while 1 person was released from a sentence restricting their freedom. Among those pardoned are 5 foreign citizens.
