Ukraine hits Russia’s largest oil hub near Samara

Overnight into October 2, Ukrainian drones attacked Samara Region. The target was the linear production and dispatch station (LPDS) Samara, the largest oil transport and distribution hub in Russia, owned by Transneft.
The site covers more than 216 hectares. It houses 71 reservoirs with a total capacity of more than 1.6 million cubic meters of oil. Four trunk oil pipelines converge at the station: Almetievsk — Kuybyshev, Kaltasinsky — Kuybyshev, Nizhnevartovsk — Kurgan — Kuybyshev and Guriev — Kuybyshev. Oil from Western Siberia, Tatarstan, Orenburg and Kazakhstan thus arrives here for further transportation.
Early in the morning, the authorities declared a rocket alert in the region and urged residents to take shelter. In Samara, ground public transport was halted against this backdrop. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, the head of the region, reported the all-clear several hours later, at half past eight in the morning Moscow time. He did not provide information on the consequences of the air attack.
Local residents wrote on social media about explosions near Samara.
Attack on Volgograd Region
That same night, Ukrainian drones carried out mass attacks on the "industrial infrastructure" of Volgograd Region, the region's governor Andrey Bocharov said. A large fire broke out in the area of two adjacent enterprises — the Volgograd oil refinery and the Kaustik chemical plant.
The Volgograd refinery is among the top 10 largest in Russia and can process around 14.8 million tonnes of oil a year. Kaustik supplies chemical products to the Russian military-industrial complex.
Russian Defense Ministry data
According to a Russian Defense Ministry summary, overnight air defense forces "intercepted and destroyed" 646 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones. The drones were recorded in the sky over 13 regions and annexed Crimea, including over Samara and Volgograd regions, as well as over Tula, Kaluga, Rostov, Saratov and Astrakhan. In addition, drones were downed over the waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
