Uzbekistan and Algeria Discuss Cooperation in Mining

Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov held a meeting with Algeria's Minister of Mining Industries Murad Hanifi on October 5. The two sides discussed promising areas of cooperation in the mining and metallurgical sectors.

During the talks, they considered opportunities for interaction in geology and geological exploration, as well as investment and institutional cooperation. Particular attention was paid to technology transfer and the introduction of modern geological modelling methods.

The two sides also discussed joint study of promising deposits of lithium, tantalum, niobium and other rare elements, as well as the training of specialists.

Meeting participants examined the potential for implementing projects on local processing of various metals. In addition, they discussed exchanging experience with the Almalyk and Navoi mining and metallurgical combines.

Following the meeting, the Uzbek side proposed creating a dedicated working group within the framework of a future intergovernmental commission and preparing an interdepartmental agreement.

The proposed mechanisms are intended to form the basis for further development of practical interaction between the two countries in the fields of geology, extraction and processing of mineral resources.
