Court orders exhumation of former Turkish intelligence officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu
Turkey has reopened the investigation into the death of former MİT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu. A court overturned a previous decision to close the case and ordered an exhumation.

In Turkey, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of former National Intelligence Organization (MİT) officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who died in prison in 2011, has been reopened. Investigative authorities have decided to conduct an exhumation to clarify the cause of his death.
Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who was arrested as part of the Ergenekon case, fell ill on 12 November 2011 in Silivri No. 1 L-type closed prison. He was taken to Silivri State Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. During the initial investigation, CCTV footage and medical records were examined, and correctional facility staff, gendarmerie personnel, medical workers, cellmates, and his wife were questioned. The investigation concluded on 10 April 2012 with a decision not to press charges.
Fourteen years later, the case was reopened at the initiative of the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department. Based on an evaluation by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Silivri First Instance Criminal Court officially overturned the 2012 decision to close the case on 26 August 2026. A confidentiality order has been placed on the new proceedings, and a special investigative team has been formed for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
