British tourist arrested in Alanya for desecrating the Turkish national flag

In the Turkish city of Alanya, law enforcement authorities have arrested 58-year-old British citizen Stephen Kerr. The man is accused of insulting the country's state symbols.
According to the investigation, the incident took place at a hotel located in the Dinek district. The British tourist had a conflict with hotel staff, during which he spat on a Turkish flag displayed in the building's lobby.
Hotel staff immediately reported the incident to the police. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and detained Kerr. After being questioned with the assistance of an interpreter, the detainee was brought before a court.
The court ordered the arrest of the British national. Stephen Kerr is currently being held in an Alanya prison, where he awaits further proceedings on charges of insulting symbols of state sovereignty.
