Syria Bought $247 Million Worth of Natural Gas From Azerbaijan in Seven Months
In the first seven months of 2026, Syria purchased 728,380 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan for 247,119 million dollars.

From January to July 2026, Azerbaijan exported 728,380 million cubic meters of natural gas worth 247,119 million dollars to the Syrian Arab Republic. This is stated in a report by the State Statistical Committee.
Over the same period, Azerbaijan exported 14,428 billion cubic meters of natural gas worth $4,882 billion to eight countries. Compared with the same period last year, the value of exports decreased by 386,7 million dollars, or 7,3%, while the volume increased by 18,019 million cubic meters, or 0,12%.
Gas Supplies to Syria
On July 12, 2025, during the working visit of Syria's transitional president Ahmad Al-Sharaa to Azerbaijan, a memorandum of understanding was signed between SOCAR and the government of the Syrian Arab Republic. The document was signed by SOCAR Supervisory Board Chairman Mikail Jabbarov and Syria's Minister of Energy Mohammad Al-Bashir.
After technical preparations were completed, exports of Azerbaijani gas to Syria through Turkey began on August 2, 2025. At the first stage, 1,2 billion cubic meters of gas per year is planned to be supplied to Syria. Through the Turkish city of Kilis, the gas reaches power plants in Aleppo and Homs and is used to generate electricity.
The supplies are expected to enable electricity generation capacity of 1 200–1 300 megawatts. Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said the infrastructure created at the first stage allows up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year to be exported to Syria.
According to Mikail Jabbarov, the export of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through Turkey is the result of joint efforts. Mohammad Al-Bashir called the project the beginning of cooperation between the two countries and said agreements had been reached to expand technical cooperation and implement new investment projects.
In the first seven months of 2026, Azerbaijan also imported natural gas only from Iran — 193,187 million cubic meters worth $13,001 million. During the same period last year, gas was imported from Russia and Turkmenistan for $33,982 million, with a volume of 221,593 million cubic meters.
