US President Donald Trump said a record volume of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz overnight, exceeding pre-war levels. He made the statement to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House.
“We are transporting huge volumes of oil. Last night, we transported a record volume of oil through the strait — more than was transported before the war,” Trump said.
According to the US president, the war with Iran will end soon. He said oil prices would “fall sharply” as soon as the conflict ends.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, reported that Trump intended to resume bombing Iran after the congressional midterm elections in November.
Tehran's Rejected Proposal
Trump rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire. It called for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of talks on the nuclear program in exchange for lifting the US blockade of Iranian ports. CNN reported that Tehran's proposal required Washington to fulfill a number of conditions over seven days.
