Ilham Aliyev Congratulates Xi Jinping on China’s National Day

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping on October 1, China’s National Day.

In the letter, the head of the Azerbaijani state highlighted China’s achievements and stressed the importance of bilateral relations, describing China as a friendly country and a reliable strategic partner for Azerbaijan.

“Dear Mr. President, on the occasion of October 1 — the National Day of the People’s Republic of China — I sincerely congratulate you, and through you the friendly Chinese people, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, and convey my very best wishes.”

“The historical achievements and successes that the People’s Republic of China has attained in national prosperity, socio-economic and scientific and technological progress, innovative development and other leading areas, thanks to your decisive leadership and far-sighted strategic course, are a source of great respect. Today, China occupies its rightful place among the world’s most powerful states and has acquired the status of an important and influential center of power.”

Aliyev stressed the high level of political dialogue and mutual trust between the two countries, as well as their consistent support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to him, the elevation of interstate ties to a new historical stage — the level of all-round strategic partnership — is a practical expression of the political will and joint efforts of the two sides.

Cooperation in the Economy and Energy

The letter noted the dynamic development of cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics, investment, energy, agricultural and humanitarian fields. It also specifically mentioned the visa-free regime between the two countries, which has been in effect for a year and has given impetus to people-to-people contacts and tourism.

Among the factors of global cooperation, the letter cited the Belt and Road Initiative, initiated by Xi Jinping and consistently supported by Azerbaijan, as well as the Middle Corridor and other connectivity projects being implemented jointly with Central Asian countries.

Regarding energy, Aliyev highlighted the activities of leading Chinese company “Universal Energy” in renewable energy in Azerbaijan and called the opening of the “Gobustan” solar power plant built by the company another example of the diversification of Azerbaijani-Chinese economic ties.

“I am confident that Azerbaijani-Chinese friendly relations and the all-round strategic partnership, which have a long history and good traditions, will continue to develop along an upward trajectory and be strengthened through our joint efforts in accordance with the will of our peoples.”

At the end of the letter, the President of Azerbaijan wished Xi Jinping good health, happiness and success in his state activities, and the friendly Chinese people well-being and prosperity.
