Azerbaijani athlete Mehin Mirzabalayeva has won the international table tennis tournament Euro Mini Champs-2026, held in Strasbourg, France. The competition, often referred to as the mini-European championship, concluded with the Azerbaijani tennis player's triumph in the 2014 age category.
Mirzabalayeva's path to the final began with successful progression through the first three stages of the tournament. In the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, she defeated opponents from Moldova and France, respectively. In the semifinal match, the athlete confidently beat a representative from Switzerland with a score of 3:0.
In the decisive gold medal match, Mehin Mirzabalayeva faced last year's tournament champion, Kaja Tvoroga from Lithuania. The Azerbaijani tennis player finished the match with a 3:1 victory, securing first place.
This result marks a historic achievement: Mehin Mirzabalayeva brought Azerbaijan its first-ever gold medal in the history of the country's participation in this tournament. Previously, the only medal won by Azerbaijani athletes at the Euro Mini Champs was a bronze medal, claimed by Onur Guluzada.
