London's Chelsea beat Brighton 4-3 in the second round of the English championship. The match marked the debut of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who transferred to the club from Aston Villa.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso highly praised the 33-year-old goalkeeper's performance. According to the specialist, the experience and character of the world champion have become an important reinforcement for the team. Alonso noted that Martinez was ready for the match despite having been with the club for only 48 hours.
“Emi is a world champion, he has vast experience. I spoke with him the day before, and he felt ready. I didn't need to say much for him to show that level of play,” Alonso commented on the goalkeeper's performance.
The match against Brighton was also marked by a personnel loss. Midfielder Moises Caicedo, who missed the start of the season, came on as a substitute in the second half but was forced to leave the pitch after just 13 minutes. Valentin Barco replaced him.
Xabi Alonso explained that the decision to substitute him was made as a precaution, as the player felt discomfort. The coaching staff plans to evaluate Caicedo's condition over the coming week, emphasizing that it is not a new injury.
