Owners of new iPhone Duo complain of cracked screens
The first buyers of Apple's foldable iPhone Duo have reported damage to internal screens along the hinge. Some phones reportedly broke within hours of purchase.

The first buyers of Apple's foldable iPhone Duo have begun complaining about damage to the internal screens. According to them, cracks appeared in roughly the same place on several devices, while some phones failed within a few hours of purchase. F4Media reports this with a reference to the source.
One Australian owner said on Reddit that his new iPhone Duo failed within six hours of purchase. According to him, he had opened the smartphone more than 20 times during that period. When the buyer showed the phone to a friend, he noticed something unusual near the hinge and then heard a crack. The screen split along the fold line. The Apple Store replaced the device free of charge.
What is known about the damage
Other owners have also published photographs of damaged smartphones. The images show cracks along the fold line of the screen, and in some cases bright horizontal and vertical stripes appeared. According to MacRumors, similar damage has also been noted on demonstration devices in Chinese stores. It is unclear under what circumstances they appeared.
AppleInsider journalists contacted service staff at seven Apple stores. They reported that no visits had been logged over the cracked iPhone Duo screens. It is too early to speak of a mass defect. The causes of the damage are unknown, and Apple has not publicly explained the situation.
Price and sales timeline
Apple presented the first foldable iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. The smartphone uses a book-style format: it has a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal one.
Global sales of the new model began on October 23. On the same day, pre-orders opened in Kazakhstan. The base 256 GB version costs almost 1.4 million tenge, while the most expensive model with 2 TB costs 2.27 million tenge. Free sales will begin on October 30.
As Kursiv reported, replacing the internal iPhone Duo screen without warranty coverage costs $999, while repair of other serious damage may reach $1,499. If the crack resulted from a manufacturing defect, the repair may be covered by the warranty.
