For the first time in 48 years, Iran has obtained financial compensation from the United States for sanctions that harmed patients with epidermolysis bullosa. Hamid Hashemi Golpayegani, director of the NGO Dom EB, announced this, Fars reports.

According to him, this is the first case in the 48 years since the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in which Iran has succeeded in obtaining a financial judgment against the US in a similar procedure and confiscating the country's assets.

"Over the 48 years since the Islamic Republic of Iran was established, we have for the first time been able in a similar procedure to obtain a financial judgment against the United States and confiscate that country's assets."

Dom EB is an NGO for children and people with epidermolysis bullosa, a condition known as the "butterfly disease." According to Golpayegani, the organisation and the families of patients obtained, through the court, the seizure of an oil cargo in response to anti-Iranian sanctions. As a result of these sanctions, supplies of medical bandages for patients were halted.

The confiscated funds are planned to be directed to the payment of compensation to affected citizens.

Separately, the source mentions statements about a war with Iran: US President Donald Trump said it would end soon, and that Tehran has no armed forces, naval forces or air forces left. Before this, Russian President Vladimir Putin passed on Iran's position on settling the conflict to the American leader.
