In the Los Angeles suburb of Chatsworth, California, a helicopter crashed between two commercial buildings on Tuesday evening. At least three people were killed in the crash, and another was taken to the hospital with injuries.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), three people were pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the hospitalized individual has not yet been specified. The exact number of people on board and the cause of the tragedy remain unknown.
The incident occurred approximately 40 kilometers northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The crash site was located near an area where emergency responders were at that moment clearing the scene of a fatal bus accident.
According to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records, the crashed aircraft was a single-engine utility Eurocopter AS350 B2 helicopter built in 2004. The aircraft was owned by a local news station.
Upon impact, a fire broke out near several vehicles and two large shipping containers. Fifty-six firefighters responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The LAFD reported that the fire was put out; four vehicles and two storage containers were damaged in the incident.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA will investigate the cause and circumstances of the crash.
