Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is open to cooperation with other countries in sport. He addressed participants and guests of the international forum Russia – Sporting Power, which is being held in Krasnoyarsk from 21 to 23 October.

"We are open to dialogue and cooperation, we stand for preserving sporting traditions and the fundamental norms of international sport law," said the Russian leader.

Putin also said Russia welcomes the emergence of new sports types. In his words, it is important that they promote the harmonious development of the person and strengthen the value of a healthy lifestyle in society.

The head of state noted the need to expand support for national sports types. According to him, they are unique tools for fostering a sense of patriotism and respect for other cultures, which strengthens mutual understanding between people.

Representatives of authorities at all levels, foreign delegations, sports committees (the Olympic and Paralympic committees), federations, as well as business leaders and media are taking part in the forum. The business programme includes around 50 business events with the participation of more than 120 speakers and moderators of discussions.

On 21 October, Putin expressed hope that the forum will become a platform for launching new projects aimed at promoting healthy values and an active lifestyle. He also wished success to participants, guests and organisers of the event.
