Safety of Australian women MPs in question after threats by a man with nunchaucks
In Perth, a 56-year-old man threatened staff at the office of Western Australian MP Hannah Beazley with nunchaku. The incident occurred several days after another female lawmaker was attacked.

In Australia, a man has been charged with threatening staff at a local parliamentary office with nunchaku. Police reported the case on Thursday. The incident took place several days after another lawmaker received serious injuries: the man repeatedly struck her with his car.
According to police, on Wednesday a 56-year-old man entered the electorate office of Western Australian Premier Hannah Beazley in the suburb of Perth. He threatened staff verbally and held nunchaku in his hands. Beazley was not in the office at the time.
Nunchaku are a martial arts weapon. They consist of two sticks or rods connected by a cord or chain.
Safety concerns for politicians
These incidents have heightened concern about the safety of female politicians. Cases have also raised the question of protecting lawmakers in the country, where parliamentary offices remain open for communication with residents.
Shortly before the threats at Beazley's office, another lawmaker, Helen Heins, received serious injuries. The man struck her repeatedly with his car.
