In Egypt, gold bars worth millions of pounds vanish from a jewellery shop display
In Fayoum, police are searching for a man who snatched five gold bars weighing about a kilogram in total from a jewellery shop. Their value is estimated at about 3.3 million Egyptian pounds.

In the Egyptian province of Fayoum, security agencies are investigating the theft of five gold bars from a well-known jewellery shop. The total weight of the bars is about one kilogram, and their value is estimated at approximately 3.3 million Egyptian pounds. According to RT Arabic, the theft took place in front of customers.
The shop owner told police that the thief first entered three other shops and then appeared inside the jewellery counter. There he asked to buy gold bars by total weight, namely five pieces of 100 grams each.
When the bars had been prepared and the bill issued, the man asked the shop assistant to bring one more item from the display case, trying to distract her. While she went for the key, he took the bars lying on the counter and hid.
The owner tried to catch the man and called on passers-by for help, but he managed to escape. She filed a complaint with the police. Fayoum police officers continue to search for and identify the suspect and detain him, and necessary measures under the law are being taken.
