Ilham Aliyev received the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pere Joan Pons Sampietro

On September 3, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pere Joan Pons Sampietro. During the negotiations, current issues of the regional agenda and prospects for cooperation were discussed.

Pere Joan Pons Sampietro congratulated the head of state on the achievements in implementing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He noted that one of the protracted conflicts in the OSCE area had been resolved, which contributes to ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

In response, Ilham Aliyev expressed regret regarding the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group, which for nearly 30 years failed to achieve results in the negotiation process. The President emphasized that the UN Security Council resolutions, which demanded the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the territory of Azerbaijan, were not implemented. According to the head of state, Azerbaijan independently put an end to the conflict through military-political means, restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the level of political dialogue and contacts between Azerbaijan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The importance of maintaining a balanced approach toward all states within the OSCE agenda was emphasized, and Azerbaijan's contribution to the development of intercultural dialogue was noted.

The problem of mine danger became a separate topic of discussion. The OSCE PA President noted the significance of the 4th International Conference on Mine Action held in Baku, titled 'Humanitarian Mine Action for Urban Recovery: Setting Best Practice Standards for Safe Settlements,' and confirmed that the issue of combating mines is included in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's agenda.
