Azerbaijan was represented at a ministerial roundtable on entrepreneurship, held within the IX World Investment Forum in Doha. The First Deputy Minister of Economy, Elnur Aliyev, delivered a speech.

The roundtable was titled "Investments in Future Creators". The event was organised by UNCTAD and the UN Conference on Trade and Development. Participants discussed the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems ready for the future, opportunities opened up by artificial intelligence and digitalisation, as well as innovation, inclusion and sustainable economic development.

In his speech, Elnur Aliyev spoke about the measures Azerbaijan is taking to diversify the economy and increase competitiveness. According to him, international investment in the energy sector contributes to development not only of infrastructure, but also of professional skills, experience and international partnership.

He noted that among the priorities are expanding the export of non-oil goods, increasing the competitiveness of local enterprises and supporting market access abroad. He named the participation of local companies in projects of the Middle Corridor, renewable energy and digital infrastructure, the introduction of new technologies and the development of workforce skills as important.

The role of institutional reforms in developing small business, attracting investment and promoting exports was also noted. Within cooperation with UNCTAD and other partners, it was proposed to implement a targeted initiative on the development of small enterprises in line with international standards, establishing links with large buyers and supporting market access for exporters.

Following the event, participants spoke about the need to unite the efforts of countries, share best practices and strengthen international partnership for business development in a rapidly changing global economy. The role of UNCTAD in coordinating such initiatives was also noted.

The IX World Investment Forum was organised to discuss global investment issues against a backdrop of geopolitical tension, economic fragmentation and rapid technological change. Its sessions cover investment policy, investment in artificial intelligence, resilient finance, climate, tourism, culture and special economic zones.
