The Muslim Spiritual Administration of Uzbekistan is ready to further strengthen religious and spiritual cooperation with religious institutions and clergy of Azerbaijan. Deputy chairman of the administration Khomidjon Ishmatbekov made the statement at an international scientific conference in Baku.

The conference took place as part of the presentation of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.

According to Ishmatbekov, the historical ties, common culture, spiritual values and belonging to a shared cultural space today bring the governments and peoples of the two countries closer together. He said that relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are now opening up new opportunities for cooperation in the regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus.

«It is here that we see strong spiritual bonds uniting the fraternal peoples of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The legacy of such thinkers as Ahmad Yasavi, Bahauddin Naqshband and the outstanding representative of the Sufi order of Khalvati, Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi, clearly shows how strong the religious and spiritual ties between the Turkic peoples have been over the centuries.»

Ishmatbekov also stressed that the peoples of the two countries have shared spiritual traditions over the centuries. In his words, the ideas of great thinkers about spiritual perfection, humanism and moral principles remain relevant today.
